I lifted the stone from the ground. There in the garden. Slipped it into my pocket. Carried on, nearly forgot it. Until the wind drifted in with a song. It was plucking the strings of my heart, like a harp. It was something familiar. As if it had happened a long long time before. I could remember she wore feathers. The rims of her eyes painted black like death. She held the stone in her palm outstretched.
